About In-House Baseball

The In-House Baseball program consists of 500 ball players organized into 42 teams with kids ranging in ages from 5 to 12. HYAA offers baseball to kids who are going into kindergarten next year to the sixth grade.

The purpose of In-House Baseball is to teach the basic fundamentals of baseball. The players will learn how to hold and throw a baseball, the proper batting stance, how to effectively hit a ball, and learn teammate and good sportsmanship skills.

The goal of In-House Baseball is to prepare the ball players to tryout and play on a traveling team when the player reaches the age of approximately 10. By this time, the players will have developed the pitching, batting, and throwing skills needed to compete against teams from other communities.

Coaches, coordinators, directors, and helpers all volunteer their time to help improve the baseball program. More volunteers are needed to help coach, groom fields, organize tournaments, etc. Please consider getting involved with the baseball program during registration. See the volunteer blocks on the registration form or contact HYAA baseball and let us know how you can help enhance the program.

Below is a list and description of the 5 divisions of In-House Baseball:

T-Ball - Kindergarten Division

Players in this division are currently enrolled in kindergarten or will be in Kindergarten next year and are typically 4, 5 or 6 years old. Approximately 100 players are expected to register and these kids will be divided into 10 teams. Team size is kept to 10 or less to ensure more one-on-one attention from the coaching staff. T-Ball is co-ed with boys and girls mixed together.

Most times T-Ball is the players' first experience with baseball. The players learn the very basics of the game. Emphasis will be placed on individual participant's hitting, fielding, base running, catching, and throwing skills. No score will be kept and no playoff tournament will occur at this level of play. The schedule consists of half games and half practices.

• Players will use a soft touch safety ball to reduce the chance of injury.

• Batter will hit off a batting tee for the first half of the season. A coach may pitch the ball to the batters the second half of the season to introduce the batters to hitting a moving ball.

• All players will bat consecutively in the batting order. A continuous batting order will carry over to the following games. This will result in all players receiving the same number of at bats throughout the season.

• Every batter will each bat one-half inning. When all batters have hit, the defensive team will then bat following the same procedures.

Pee Wee 1 Division

Players in this division are currently enrolled in the 1st grade and are typically 6 or 7 years old. Approximately 85 players are expected to register and these kids will be divided into 8 teams. Team size is kept to around 10 to ensure more one-on-one attention from the coaching staff. The Pee Wee 1 Division typically consists of boys, but girls are welcome and encouraged to play. Softball is also offered for girls at this level.

The players continue to learn the basics of the game. Emphasis will be placed on individual participant's hitting, fielding, base running, catching, and throwing skills. No score will be kept and no playoff tournament will occur at this level of play. The schedule consists of half games and half practices.

• Players will use a soft touch safety ball to reduce the chance of injury.

• Batters will hit off a batting tee for the first two games of the season. A coach will pitch the ball to the batters from the third game to the end of the season.

• All players will bat consecutively in the batting order. A continuous batting order will carry over to the following games. This will result in all players receiving the same number of at bats throughout the season.

• Every batter will each bat one-half inning. When all batters have hit, the defensive team will then bat following the same procedures.

Pee Wee 2 Division

Players in this division are currently enrolled in the 2nd grade and are typically 7 or 8 years old. Approximately 85 players are expected to register and these kids will be divided into 8 teams. Team size is kept to around 10 to ensure more one-on-one attention from the coaching staff. The Pee Wee 2 Division typically consists of boys, but girls are welcome and encouraged to play.

The players continue to learn the fundamentals of the game. Emphasis will be placed on individual participant's hitting, fielding, base running, catching, and throwing skills. No score will be kept and no playoff tournament will occur at this level of play. The schedule consists of half games and half practices.

• Players will use a soft touch safety ball to reduce the chance of injury.

• Batters will hit a ball thrown from a pitching machine the entire season. This allows for a consistent pitch delivered from a distance of 40 feet. The pitching machine allows the batters to develop their batting skills and helps maintain a better flow to the games.

• All players will bat consecutively in the batting order. A continuous batting order will carry over to the following games. This will result in all players receiving the same number of at bats throughout the season.

• Every batter will each bat one-half inning. When all batters have hit, the defensive team will then bat following the same procedures.

Minors 3/4 Division

Players in this division are currently enrolled in the 3rd or 4th grade and are typically 8 to 10 years old. Approximately 150 players are expected to register. The number of traveling teams at this level will determine the amount of in-house teams. On average, the players will be divided into 10 to 12 teams. Every effort will be made to keep the team size to around 12 players. The Minors 3/4 Division typically consists of boys, but girls are welcome and encouraged to play.

The players continue to learn the fundamentals of the game. Emphasis will be placed on individual participant's hitting, fielding, base running, catching, and throwing skills. Game scores will be kept but not winning records. The schedule favors games with practices at the beginning and during the season. A tournament is scheduled towards the end of July.

• Players will use a regular, solid core baseball.

• Players will pitch the whole season. Pitching at this level prepares the pitchers and batters to tryout for a traveling team the following season.

• A pitching clinic is scheduled at the beginning of the season. The pitchers will learn the fundamental mechanics of pitching and how to hold and pitch a ball.

• Pitchers will pitch from a distance of 46 feet.

• All players will bat consecutively in the batting order. A continuous batting order will carry over to the following games. This will result in all players receiving the same number of at bats throughout the season.

• Three outs or five-run rule per inning limit will be enforced the whole season.

Majors 5/6 Division
